In the mornings at 3°C you have to put layers and layers on and during the day you can start peeling like an onion, by 13h00 in the afternoon you can enjoy a book while sunbathing at 30°C. June is the middle of winter in the Kalahari but this is also the start of our high season when you can see more animals. Why? Because the bush is not so dense and animals start to come to the waterholes more often! Winter is not our rainy season; our rain season starts in November until April, normally! We’ve experienced some weird weather lately. Rainfall in the middle of June is not common. The late rainfall influenced the game viewing at waterholes over the past few weeks and we are only now starting to catch sight of them again at the waterholes.

At the Kalahari Manor we have a nice warm fireplace to warm you up while having a glass of red wine. Last week the lions visited the guests at the Kalahari Manor, you would think that they wanted to join them at the fireplace and when they realized that’s not going to happen they took the cushions on the veranda and played them to shreds!

We have regular sightings of a journey of giraffe on the airstrip with two new youngsters, necking and playing. One can see that this is a spot they like, maybe feeling safe in the open space?
DID YOU KNOW?
A giraffe's tongue is 50 cm long and the mouth is almost like rubber on the inside which enables them to eat the acacia trees with thorn and leaves all together.
Just out of interest a “group” of giraffes moving is called a “journey of giraffe” and a “group” of giraffes standing still is called a “tower of giraffe”!
